Personalized multimedia touristic services for hybrid broadcast/broadband mobile receivers

This paper presents the topology of a multimedia tourism service that targets mobile devices equipped with broadband and either multicast or broadcast access capabilities. Multicast / Broadcast access is used to handle the delivery of multimedia data to many simultaneous users in the service area. QoS Support for Time-Constrained Multimedia Communications in IEEE 802.11 WLANs: A Performance Evaluation

During the past few years, we have been witnessing the massive deployment of IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs. Even though the widespread deployment of such wireless LANs, many studies are still underway aiming to design and develop simple yet effective QoS mechanisms for supporting time-constrained services over such platforms. In this paper, we first overview five different QoS mechanisms recently introduced in the literature as well as the upcoming IEEE 802.11e (EDCA) standard. We then carry out a comparative performance evaluation of all the QoS mechanisms. We focus our study on the effectiveness of the various QoS mechanisms for supporting time-constrained services.

Two amendments to IEEE 802.11 have recently been published: 802.11aa and 802.11ae. Both enhance Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning in Wi-Fi networks by providing support for multicast transmission, enhanced audio video streaming, coping with inter-network interference, and improved prioritization of management frames. Tuning of QoS Aware Load Balancing Algorithm (QoS–LB) for Highly Loaded Server Clusters

This paper introduces a novel algorithm for content based switching. A content based scheduling algorithm (QoS Aware Load Balancing Algorithm, QoS-LB) which can be used at the front-end of the server cluster is presented. The front-end switch uses the content information of the requests and the load on the back servers to choose the server to handle each request. At the same time, different Quality of Service (QoS) classes of the customers can be considered as one parameter in the load balancing algorithm. This novel feature becomes more important when service providers begin to offer the same services for customers with different priorities.

A global service level guarantee in NGN networks

In this paper, we propose an end-to-end service level negotiation protocol which enables a global service offer covering quality of service (QoS) and security while taking into account user's mobility in this offer. This protocol provides all the domains involved in the transport of a various offered services with a negotiation capability to achieve an agreement on a service level.
